A Vision of War
Soldiers from two armies faced each other on the battlefield. The scorched land beneath their feet stretched beyond the horizon. The sky above was darkened by thick dark grey clouds. Each side had an uncountable number of soldiers. They stood facing each other. Ready to duel to the death. As I surveyed the battle, I understood that this war has been waged for thousands of years.
The distinction between both sides were very clear. One army worn black armor. They were fully armored and ready for battle. Their swords were unsheathed, arrows drawn, spears raised and shields closely joined as they stood ready to strike. Their face was the embodiment of all things hateful. They were grotesques in appearance. There was a clear space before them. It acted as an invisible line that separated them from the other army.
On the other side was the army of light. They wore white clothing and very shiny armor. Well not everyone. A few stood poised for battle. They wore helmets, breastplates of metal coats, broad belts around their waist for carrying the sword, held a shining white sword in their right hand and a shield in their left hand. Leather-strapped sandals were also on their feet. They were ready to charge the enemy at a moment’s notice.
Yet behind them were many other soldiers dressed in white. They were in various modes of readiness. Some only had on a helmet. Others a breastplate but no sword. Some had on sandals. Some were without armor and sandals. Their armor was strewn our before them all over the ground. These soldiers stood casually chatting among themselves. Completely oblivious to the battle. There were also others who were getting ready for the battle.
Above the soldiers in white flew an innumerable hosts of angels. Their swords were drawn. They were waiting for the command to join the army of white in the battle.
While praying in October 2014 I was shown this vision. It appeared as a large still image. God was showing me the state of the ongoing war between His Kingdom and the Kingdom of darkness on the earth. I am sure you have realized the soldiers in white belong to the Kingdom of God. And those in black belong to the kingdom of darkness. They are the Devil’s army.
As the vision unfolded I was overcome by a deep sadness. I believe this was the heart of God. He was very sad about the state of some of His children. He was sad that far too many of them were simply not ready for the battle. Which of the soldiers on the field were they? The ones who were in various stages of undress or had completely disregarded their armor.
As I reflected on the vision, the Lord revealed that these saints chose to walk in complete denial of the war raging around them. They were very contented to stand behind those who were ready for war. Instead of suiting up, they were willing to let others fight for them.
All was not lost though. I rejoiced to see that some soldiers were ready for battle. They stood ready to charge the enemy. They understood who they were and what was given to them for the war. Other like-minded brethren were close by their side. But they also understood that there was another army fighting with them. This is the heavenly hosts (the angels). The battle-ready soldiers were the smallest group. Yet they were unfazed. These soldiers were not many. They were the few brave souls on the front-line.
We are in a war! Whether we choose to participate or not does not change that reality. The moment we made Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we were drafted for war. Yes! Every disciple is a soldier in God’s army. What we must avoid is being numbered among those who disregard their armor.
10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].
11 Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
As you will see from verse 11 above you need the armor of God to withstand the enemy. Every scheme, every plot, every attack from the enemy can be withstood when we put on the armor of God.
Make no mistake, Satan is always scheming. He’s not going “well look at Mike. He’s relaxing let me just leave him alone.” No sir! He sees you idling and he will ensure that you are enticed to waste more time. He may even bombard you with so many adverse things that your entire time is taken up just trying to survive. He is our enemy. He hates every believer and wishes to destroy us. So we must be vigilant at all times.
1 Peter 5:8
Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
Please take note of the fact that he is not a lion. He only roars like a lion but he lacks the teeth to bite. It is sad that far too often we are afraid of what the Devil will do when the Word of God tells us that we have authority over Him. Jesus defeated him and gave us power and authority over him and all the kingdom of darkness.
Waging A Good Warfare
Your first battle will be internal. Satan will attack your thoughts. Your mind will be bombarded with negative thoughts. Things that make you doubt your value and God. You will doubt the power of His Word and His commitment to His Word. This is designed to keep you preoccupied on the sidelines.
1 Corinthians 10:3-6
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
Jesus showed us the strategy for winning this war when He underwent the temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-5). The war was won by standing firmly on the Word of God. We must settle the internal war once and for all. The territory of our mind must be freed from Satan’s attacks and influence. Like Jesus we must say ‘... the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me‘ (John 14:30). After settling the war on the inside you will experience greater victories on the outside. When you get up the Kingdom of darkness will say look he/she is awake!
The very moment you made Jesus your Lord and Savior you were translated from the Kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God. blessings, an armor, power, authority, and several other gifts were given to you. Your Father fully equipped you for victory. Jesus is your head. Your war chief. He never loses.
This series is designed to prepare you for our war against the Kingdom of darkness. You will learn everything about your impenetrable armor. And how to offensively use your weapons against the enemy of your soul. You may struggle initially. But as you grow in knowledge, understanding and obedience to the Word of God you will see victory. The Spirit of God will also give you strategies to wage a good warfare! You will see victory after victory.
Come on let’s suit up!
