Watch Out! The Thief Comes to Devour, 1 Peter 5:8-9 | Healing Meditation

Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.

~ 1 Peter 5:8-9, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

Healing is warfare! Receiving and retaining our healing means we must be willing to fight. Please! Please understand! I am not talking about fighting people. Our fight is not with flesh and blood. Our fight is against a bully that comes with one intent. His intentions is to completely destroy us. He seeks to snatch the promises of God right from under you.

Be vigilant! Be sober! Always be watching. As your adversary the Devil is always on the prowl. He is looking for people that he may devour. To devour is to eat very quickly. Why does he want to move quickly against us. He knows that you can withstand him once you mount a defense. What is even better is your offensive stance. Once you make that stance he will not be able to simply doe whatever he wants. I am telling you that he is not at liberty to take you out of the game whenever he wants. Pay careful attention to what the Bible says, ‘he seeks for those whom he may devour‘. That means there are some people he cannot touch. Ensure you are one of those people.

Use Your Weapons

God provides you with weapons that you may use in your offensive stance. One extremely important weapon is the Word of God. Learn it! Meditate on it! Use it by faith to withstand the Devil. We are presented with a glorious use of the scriptures by Jesus. With just three scriptures he defeated the Devil (Matthew 4:4). The word works! If we can only believe that. It works. If we do not believe we must keep speaking it until faith enters our heart. Sometimes it takes a little longer to fight with the word but we must be determined. Never give up! Just two months ago I woke in excruciating pain. The left side of my body was paralyzed. It was dead. From my neck down I could not move my body. I did not panic. I was annoyed. I begun to rebuke Satan. And used the word of the Lord to command my body to respond. Life came back in my arm and left leg. As soon as that happened I got up out of that bed. I begun walking around and rebuking the pain. Sensation came back in my upper body but my leg was still in pain. After going at it for a few hours I went back to bed. The next day I warred against the illness with the word of God. You see I am convinced that Jesus has taken all illness, sickness and disease on himself (Isaiah 53:4-5; 1 Peter 2:24-25). There is nothing that He cannot heal. Absolutely nothing. I would love to tell you that healing came immediately but it didn’t. It almost six months for me to be completely healed of all symptoms.

Since then I stopped neglecting the declaration of the Word over my life and my family every morning. I make time to declare health, wholeness, completeness, joy in the Holy Ghost and the promises of God. I make time to command my day. All it takes is a few minutes!

What am I doing by making these declarations based on scripture? I am setting a barrier that blocks any voice that speaks contrary to the truth of God’s word. You see the only way Satan gets to afflict us is by getting us to come into agreement with him. One of the ways is the facts he presents us. When I did a check of what was happening in my body I had many of the symptoms that registered as prediabetes. Then the enemy kept saying, “its in your bloodline. You did not know but your your great-grandparents had it. Remember your grandmother had it”. I was so foolish. I heard that and read the facts and came into agreement with it. Then the Holy Spirit rose up on the inside of me and asked me what was I doing? Scriptures came back to my memory to remind me that I am no longer of my natural family. I am a part of the body of Jesus Christ. I am a new creature in him. (1 Corinthians 5:17). A completely new man. Made one with Him. My bloodline is no longer of my parents. Heck, he even changed my name! Just to ensure I always remember that fact! When I woke up to truth. I was set free. John 7:32 says, “And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free“. I was awaken to truth. Truth dismissed facts. So I set the Word of truth to heal my body. Before I could effectively yield the weapon, I had to come out of agreement with the words I had accepted. Words that were counter to the God’s word. When I came out of agreement with those words I stopped seeing a return of the symptoms. The changes stayed. My leg stopped stiffening up at nights and during the day. My back stopped having excruciating pain in the early hours of the morning.

Believe me when I tell you the Word works! It worked 2000 years ago. It worked for countless others in the past. It is working right now for some folks. It will do the same for you.

Take Your Stance

We need not know a lot of scripture. If you do, that that is great! One verse I would encourage you to meditate on is 1 Peter 2:24 ‘Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed‘. Know this, Jesus has done everything to heal you. The victory was won on the cross. We must reinforce it. How do I do that? I am glad you asked!

Keep speaking the word of Truth until you see the desired result. We often lose the battle because we want a microwave victory. Some fights are dirty. They last very, very long but you must keep bombarding the enemy until you get the desired result.

Sometimes we are devoured because we simply have not persisted. Far too often we give up quickly. Stand in faith. Continue hitting the enemy with the Word. Every time you do it he is weakening. Each time you make your stand his teeth falls out. Don’t stop. Keep going. PUSH until you get the desired result!

After warring against all the attacks that came my way. And there were three different afflictions that came after a 40 days fast. But glory to God! Deliverance came when I expressed my resolve to fight with my dying breath and never, ever give in. That night I had a dream. In the dream a lion charged at me. He flashed his mane. His body shook as he rose up on his front legs and roared. My body vibrated with the sound of the roar. Sudden terror seized me but boldness rose up in me. I determine to make a stand against. He charged at me but I kept my ground. I quickly looked around for something to defend my self with. Only a rock the size of my fist was nearby. I was happy it was there. I quickly grabbed it and hurled it at him. The rock smashed into him and he let out a loud cry of pain; spun around and ran. That was the last time. I had any more pains in my body.

Be Vigilante

Prayer is one way that we must stay vigilant. As we communicate with the Lord regularly in prayer he will show us what is to come. The Holy Spirit will also give us the strategy of how to combat what may come. Anything you are shown means God is saying ‘you go ahead, use the authority I have given you. Change that bad situation, change that bad future’. You the power of your words! They have power to create. Power to shape your environment.

I have had several instance where the Lord has shown me things in prayer. Things that were not just related to me but many other people. I prayed I saw changes occur. Sometimes I have had to tell the people. At other times I simply pray and do not tell them what I am doing.

Being watchful and vigilant must not only be for ourselves. We must be our brothers keeper. We must ensure that all is well with them.
