Forget Your Haters

I know it is popular to speak about the haters. It is hard to ignore them. We all face these people. Some are permanent. They stand in opposition to you, at all times. Like rocks they cannot be moved. I know it hurt at times but it is time to declare peace with them. It is time to forget the actions of our haters.

Their actions should never be your focus. If we pay attention to the noise around us we will be lead to believe that people can make or break us. We will believe that our future depends on these haters. A few years ago someone called me in distress. He was being undermined by someone in a higher position at his work. Everything was being done to sabotage him. I prophesied to him that in two weeks that person would reap the rewards of their actions. God will turn the plans on them. That is exactly what happened. God sent a Director from another region (country) to investigate and the person was fired immediately. For the trouble that he endured God rewarded him with a promotion.

If you listen to everything said in media you will believe that a person of power can greatly affect your future. That is not true. No one is given that power over you. God never gave man dominion over another man. One Sunday, while Apostle Clive O’brien, of The Father’s Heart Christian Center, in Lauderhill, Fort Lauderdale Florida was preaching prophetically, as he always does, He paused and said ‘God just told me I never gave man dominion over another man or woman’. The voice of God came to him with such force that he was visibly shaken.

When we look at Genesis, the book of beginnings, in verses 24-29 we see that man was given dominion (rulership, complete authority) over:

  1. The birds of the air, which is control of what is above us in the sky;
  2. The fish in the sea, which is control over what moves in the sea below the earth-water life.
  3. And every living thing that moves upon the earth. This is the animal kingdom.

To make it simple, we were given authority over every living non-human thing that is within the earth realm. We have no authority over another human being.

Your hater does not control your life. It doesn’t matter who he or she may be. I am here to tell you that whatever, they do their actions do not count. What matters is what God has said. No one controls your destiny. No one holds your future. Only your actions determine what will happen in your future. Your parents or guardian will only influence your future for a short period of time. Their actions may push you in the right direction but you are the one who has the power to unlock your destiny.

Your destiny, purpose and future is orchestrated by God. He has a perfect plan for it. “For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). Consider your relationship with the Creator rather than what your haters are doing. The closer your walk with Him, the more He will reveal to you. God’s plan for our life is always far greater than we can imagine. “Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand (be carried out)” (Proverbs 19:21 AMP)

When all they are doing is talk. Walk away. Ignore them. Ask God to deliver you from slander and gossip . Do not stop to engage them.

People will always say mean things about you. They may try to sabotage you. Learn to work around that. God will give you insight into what is about to happen and the strategy to overcome it. I recommend you use the Jesus model. He had to work with his haters right up in his face every day. They placed spies to watch him. They tried to ensnare him with various traps. They tried to intimidate him. They tried to provoke him. They tried to use the circumstances of his birth to shame him, to brand him a sinner instead of the righteous leader that the crowds believe he was. They did everything humanly possible. Nothing they did succeeded. He was never distracted. He was intensely focused on doing the will of the Father. Even while suffering, then dying and rising he was doing the will of the Father.

I know there are some actions from your haters that you must face. When that happens your first reaction must be to call on God to fight on your behalf. This is what David did when King Saul sent assassins to watch his house. “Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me; deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men” (Psalm 59:1-2). God saved him and allowed him to become King. David had to endure the persecution of his hater-King Saul. He waited for years. There were many times when the opportunity to take revenge presented itself but he refused to speak ill or strike the King because he knew he was God’s anointed. He never allowed himself to hate Saul. His actions proved that he was capable of ruling with the compassion and love so God fulfilled his word and made David King. (See 1 Samuel 24, 26, 2 Samuel 1, 5).

God is not interested in elevating you so that you can boast before people. Making you great is not about you. It is about the establishment of His Kingdom. It is about the lives of people who face damnation. He wants you to be a beacon to draw people to Him. How you manage the conflict will be a testimony to them about God’s ability to save and deliver. He wants your response to reflect his love and compassion. It must be an example for others to follow.

When you stop to notice what they are saying, it moves you away from your assignment. It stops you from hearing what God is saying. I can speak first hand about that. I used to value people’s opinion of what God told me to do, at all times. Being young in the faith, I placed a great emphasis on it. I wanted to do the right thing. Maybe it was a desire to impress my elders or just insecurities. I cannot say for certain. What I can say is that I did it naively, without checking people’s motives. I also never asked them if they prayed about what God had said to me. I would rely on their opinion. Several times their advice cost me. The price was delays and suffering. As it moved me away from what God said.

There were many times when what was they said caused deep hurt. I remember going to God about it and he rebuked me. He told me to stop focusing on their actions what they do will never affect my destiny. Only what He has said matters. He alone can open doors of opportunities. He alone can open doors of blessings. He uses people to do it but ultimately it is Him who must get the glory for the good things that happens in your life.

When you pay attention to what your haters are saying or doing against you, you are making them greater than God. If you spend time in His presence He will show you their actions before they even begin to do it. You can cancel those in the realm of the spirit and make things to work in your favor. You are the prophet for your life. Your words over your life will stand. If you make God your refuge He will protect you. (See Psalm 91:1-2; John 16:13)

God can turn your haters into your biggest supporter. When your ways please him he can cause them to make peace with you (Proverbs 16:7).

Discipline your ears to listen to what God is saying. Discipline your eyes to focus on what He is doing. Discipline your mouth to speak what He is saying. Control your conversation. Use your words wisely. Spend time in prayer and fasting to know the will of God for your life. Prophesy it over your life. Your words will determine your future.

“You will also decide and decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And the light [of God’s favor] will shine upon your ways” (Job 2:28 AMP).
